Learning Materials - CoolLIFE Tool and Knowledge Hub

Introduction

This page provides an overview of the training materials and events designed to support the capacity-building objectives of the CoolLIFE project. It offers a structured approach for learning how to use the CoolLIFE Knowledge Hub and Tool, including the Calculation Modules (CMs), and provides guidelines to help users apply them in planning and implementing sustainable space cooling (SC) solutions across different contexts.

In addition to self-paced learning and structured training formats, this page also includes a section on how to host a CoolLIFE training. It is designed to help users reuse and adapt training materials within their own organisations or networks, supporting broader knowledge transfer and enabling local capacity building using the CoolLIFE platform.

CoolLIFE Wiki

This Wiki is an online resource that provides detailed guidance on using the CoolLIFE Tool and Knowledge Hub. It is structured to offer information on data methodologies, instructions to use functionalities and guidelines for various use cases and target users.

CoolLIFE User Manual

The User Manual provides step-by-step instructions on using the CoolLIFE Tool and Knowledge Hub. The User Manual is available here.

CoolLIFE Tutorials

A series of video tutorials introduce users to the main features of the CoolLIFE Tool and Knowledge Hub, Calculation Module (CM) and key functionality, making it easy for users to get hands-on guidance for specific applications. The complete tutorials playlist is available here CoolLIFE Tutorials Playlist.

Training events

CoolLIFE training events are designed with different time frames to suit various audiences and levels of detail:

  • Short Training (10–20 minutes): A brief introduction to the project, tools, and functionalities. Suitable for third-party webinars and conferences.
  • Long Training (60 minutes): A more detailed walkthrough of each CM and functionality, applied to case studies or toolchains. Suitable for CoolLIFE's events.
  • In-depth Workshop (60–120 minutes): A comprehensive workshop including practical exercises to apply CMs to real-case scenarios. Suitable for longer national stakeholder workshops.

Training events are supported by presentations, which are made available to users along with the recordings of training sessions. These resources serve as an accessible reference for future use.

Feedback

User feedback is essential for improving CoolLIFE training materials and events. Feedback is collected at the end of each training event, and at the end of the training programme, we will summarize and share here the main conclusions drawn from all feedback collected.

How to host a CoolLIFE training – Train-the-Trainer Approach

This section provides practical guidance for users who want to organise and deliver their own CoolLIFE training sessions, reusing and adapting the official training materials. Whether you’re planning a session for your colleagues, students, stakeholders, or community, this guide supports you in becoming a local trainer and advocate for sustainable space cooling.

CoolLIFE's training materials—including the Wiki, User Manual, Tutorials, and Presentations—are openly available and can be adapted and reused for local, institutional, or national capacity-building events.

Purpose

The train-the-trainer approach aims to:

  • Empower trained participants to organise further training within their organisations or networks.
  • Increase local ownership and adaptation of the CoolLIFE Tool and Knowledge Hub.
  • Create a decentralised network of trainers contributing to broader outreach.

How to Reuse the Materials

1. Identify your audience

Tailor your training to one or more of the key target groups:

  • Researchers and academia
  • Industry professionals (e.g. engineers, consultants, planners)
  • Public authorities and policy officers
  • Facility and building managers
  • Social innovation experts

2. Select and adapt training content

Use the provided slides, user manual, and tutorials. Modify content to reflect your national or local context—e.g. inserting local climate data or regulatory references.

3. Choose the appropriate training format

  • Short Intro (10–20 min): Overview for high-level stakeholders or webinars
  • Standard Training (60 min): Demonstration of tool features and CMs
  • In-depth Workshop (60–120 min): Includes case studies and guided exercises

4. Incorporate interactive elements

Engage participants with practical tasks using the CoolLIFE Tool (e.g. applying a Calculation Module to their city), group discussions, and live tool demonstrations.

5. Facilitate peer learning and networking

Allocate time during sessions for participants to share their experiences, challenges, and use cases.

Ensure participants have access to:

7. Collect and share feedback

Use feedback templates provided during official CoolLIFE training events to gather insights. Share lessons learned with the project team to contribute to future improvements.
